HEROS Charity is partnering with Medi-K Training to offer the FAA Level 2 in Emergency First Aid at Work (QCF) course with Equestrian-Specific Supplement – designed for those who work or are involved in horseriding/racing activities.

This HSE-compliant one-day course, by leading provider Medi-K Training, takes place at North Farm Stud… the home of HEROS Charity. The tailored course will deliver a complete overview of first aid procedures for those working with or involved with horse riding and racing activities, including events and recreation. Added rider-specific content reflects the risks riders and stable staff face on a daily basis.

All learners must be a minimum of 14 years of age but otherwise this opportunity is available to all and the maximum group size will be 12.

The training aims to increase safeguards for workers in the equine industry – particularly where an employer’s risk assessment indicates that extra measures must be taken to manage the potential of severe injuries.

A range of subjects is covered including: responsibilities and reporting, resuscitation, fainting and seizures, choking, hygiene, bleeding control, shock, recovery position and legalities.

Additional, specialised content on the course includes:

  • Managing head and spinal injuries
  • Treatment of riders wearing safety kit
  • Crush injuries
  • Casualties suffering from extremes of heat and cold

The course consists of seven hours of both theoretical and practical activities and assessment is via a multiple-choice test at the end of the day with certificates being awarded on completion.
